Who here likes all of these Free to play games out there. There's a ton of MMO/MMORPGs out there that are free to play, and many console games are free to play as well. But, are these games even free? Some games suffer from this little known problem known as, pay to win, which is the developers make DLC with special items/weapons and so on, that when a user buys, gives them an advantage.

Do you think this is fare? You could get some of these items for griding in a game, but it could take ages and all someone has to do is pay a little real life cash to get said items.

    What do you think?

I've been playing Path of Exile and Knights of The Old Republic. KOTOR is fun but sucks when you have to pay to get a speeder right away. Was playing a low level raid and the other players would speed off on their bikes and kick butt with there cash bought items. POE is awesome I've put 8 hours into it without paying a dime.

Yeah that's a problem I see with free to play around the whole pay to win aspect. I respect you for playing a free to play game and not buying items to get ahead, I imagine that's quite hard when everyone seems to pay to win.

I usually play till I get to the wall where it's like your gonna have to grind for hours in order to get anywhere new or you can pay 5 dollars.

I got bored with Star Wars. Path of the Exile is pretty good but gets grindy after you finish the story.

LoTR Online has the best free to play system in my opinion. You can earn points in-game, with a little bit of a grind, to buy things in the store, including all of the expansions. They also have frequent sales on the store that allows you to strategically spend your earned points. I've never yet spent a dime and have unlocked all of the content without spending any considerable amount of time grinding. All of the earned points have come from just progressing through the game doing quests and completing deeds.

Hearthstone also nails the ftp equation.

Free to play can work fine even with microtransactions. There just needs to be something where the items people get don't give users unfair atvantages, if they do, then it's not worth playing it in my opinion.
