Why do so many hate the new Thief game?

I got Theif for the 360 when they gave it away during games for gold, and I just started playing it a bit and I must say, it's actually quite fun. It's no dishonored or anything, which is what I was reminded of when playing it. I'll say it's actually kind of fun to play. Maybe it's because I'm an overall patient person and am pretty good when it comes to sneaking around in games, and the combat is actually pretty fun too.

I think so far, the only weak part is the story. Not really invested in it or anythin. But I do enjoy sneaking around stealing stuff.

What was the big dislike about this game anyways?

Im guessing a lot of the complaints are because of playing the original... The original one was awesome and the new one is just kind of lacking. Its not bad, its just lacking... But i said the same thing about assassins creed 3 too

I remember a game I played recently, a 2012 FPS named Syndicate, and this game was a reboot of a 1993 RTS of the same name.  It's pretty obvious in this situation why fans of the original game hate the reboot, and presumably something similar happened with Thief as well.

I'd also bet on some mass appeal problems that come with developing a triple-A title.  Triple-A almost always means "idiot-proof", which means a lot of the facets players enjoyed of their specific genre are stripped out or simplified.  I've seen a lot of criticism about how Thief has fixed paths through levels for success so that probably has a lot to do with it.

And Assassin's Creed peaked at AC2.  Brotherhood had good elements but was held back by its whole micromanaging of recruits, and none of the games have been as good since.

How different is the newer Theif game to the original theif game? I may have to check the original one out to see how it differs.

But I agree about Assassin's Creed. AC2 and Brotherhood are still my all time favorites in the series, but it's true that they haven't really done much with the series since. I did like Black Flag a bit though.

I think it's the same way some people disliked Hitman Absolution. They didn't follow the original formula and went their own route. This is the case when a new publisher takes over. Square Enix is kind of to blame here, as they did Theif as well. But, I believe Square Enix learns from their mistakes and will put out a better game in the future. They're already trying to get back into the good graced of Hitman fans, with Hitman, so maybe they can do justice in a theif sequel.

I'm 50/50 on that, because I though absolution was a lot of fun, but I didn't like that they didn't follow the same routine that the first few games did. Like where you had to pick your weapons, get special intel on a mission and so on. I hope Hitman is like Hitman games of the past, but with how they're not releasing it 100% complete at release, it kind of worries me.

Nice, I might have to request it as well. I just hope it plays well on the 360.
