Will we see more developers doing what Telltale games does?

Telltale games have started a trend among gamers. They've grown in popularity lately ever since The Walking Dead: Season 1 and then The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead Season 2, Tales from the Borderlands and now Game of Thrones.

Do you think more developers will try to do the episodic content in the future? It's possible this sort of thing will happen, but when? I really think some developers will jump on this bandwagon and try to deliver great games in shorter instances. What do you think?

I have a feeling some developers will give this sort of thing a shot. We already have GTA V sporadically releasing DLC for free, and some games have done that, either paid or for free. I'm sure it's possible developers will look more into the episode content instead to make development time easier.

God, I hope not. That's all we need is a flood of games of the same type of game play.

Telltale's games are visual novels and not video games in a technical sense, so they deliver great storytelling by not providing an actual game at all.  It works well in this kind of situation, but we've already seen how badly it goes over elsewhere.

The first guys to pick up episodic content besides Telltale is already someone in the Axis of Evil, and we can already see how Activision did it to Destiny with mixed results at best.  This highlights the problem with episodic content when you're dealing with an actual interactive video game; they see it/deploy it as an opportunity to cut their product into tons of tiny chunks and release them in $20 DLCs back to the consumer after getting the original $60 chunk from purchasing the title.

I personally hope that this manner of releasing content does not catch on.

I just finished Game of Thrones (finished Tales from the Borderlands a long time ago) and have only completed parts of the Walking Dead, Minecraft Story mode, and Back to the Future.  This thread is 3.5 years old, and it looks like Telltale are the only ones doing this at least for disc based games.  I don't know what digital offerings there are.

Life is Strange is a game that comes to mind that's kind of similar. It's getting a sequel too. Has episodic episodes and your choices have some impact, great game too. There is another game coming out soon, but I forgot what it was called. It looked like some Sherlock Holmes horror mystery.

There doesn't seem to be many doing the episodic games aside from Telltale games and a few others though.

I played the first episodes a couple years back, and only finished the final episodes fairly recently. I'm interested in seeing what the sequel will be like.
