Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is being developed for the 3DS by Next Level Games and will feature multiple mansions as well as new ghosts. The game was originally slated to be released during the holiday season of 2012, but was delayed to Q1 2013, and the announcement of the final title was made during the Nintendo "All Access Event" at E3 2012. It is also known that the game will see the return of the Luigi's Mansion 1 characters Toad, Professor Gadd, and King Boo.
The game once again stars Luigi as he continues to hunt down ghosts with his new vacuum cleaner, the Poltergust 5000. As in the original game, players navigate the world in 3D space, and in some cases will also be able to control Luigi using the 3DS's motion controls.
Much like in Luigi's Mansion 1, players must capture ghosts by using their flashlight-like "strobocope" on them once it is fully charged, and then vacuuming them up. When a player starts vaccuming a ghost, the health of that ghost will appear on the screen and they will often try to drag the player around the room. Once the health of the ghost is entirely depleted, they are captured.
Different ghosts have different amounts of health, and some ghosts must be scared out of hiding places before they can be captured. Dark Moon will also introduce knew types of enemies such as mummies, however, it is as yet unknown how these enemies will be treated in gameplay.
